I think this is stupid, you can educate them about other religions but they don't need to actually pray. The short film is fine but they don't need to do what ever they say in the film.
I think if one of the Muslim kids had to learn about other religions the parents will get really mad.
I don't think that if they refused to pray that they were ""disrespectful" to the prophet" first because they are not Muslims and second we don't pray to the Prophet.

  I'll bet that if the children were forced to pray to Jesus, there would be riots over it and the children would be lifted up as pillars of our "free-thinking" society.

    As well they should be and these children should be held up as pillars of free-thinking society as well. Teaching religion is an important part of teaching people about humanity in general; however, forcing the children to pray in any way, shape or form in a school setting is not only wrong, it is sick. I truly hope this is not a norm in the UK, just as I truly hope that teaching creationism is not the norm in the US.

      I agree to an extent. These courses on religious acceptance have no place in any setting. Your faith is a personal matter. You are guaranteed the right to believe as you choose by the Constitution under the first ammendment. I don't know if there is a similar establishment of rights in the UK.
      As for creationism, it in itself is not a bad thing. Darwinian theory and creationism go hand in hand. "Which came first: the chicken or the egg?" Darwin doesn't explain how the spark of life came to be, but he does explain how we got here from there.
      Intelligent design, or creationism as you call it, can also allow for alternate theories such as genetic seeding of this planet by ancient beings from other parts of the universe. Von Danniken hinted at this in his books.

        Last month this kid I know, I think he's in 6th grade told me he would get extra credit if he knew the first 5 books of the bible. I asked if that was in Sunday school, he said no in a class at school. I was shocked, but then he said well we are learning about all religions, ok I thought until he said his teacher then said to the class all happy, "for those of you who believe in Jesus, you are going to LOVE this class"
        WRONG WRONG WRONG, I don't care if it's Allah, Jesus or whoever. It's a PUBLIC school.

        Well, it's a difficult issue. Schools should teach children about cultures and identity groups primarily because those systems and assemblies are important to understanding society and societal issues.
        If you learn about all religions, or all major religions, this is helpful because so much of our art and literature is based upon religion.
        How can you learn art history without a thorough knowledge of religion? How can you learn about major important literary works without a thorough knowledge of religion even if you do not believe in THAT particular religion. Great art, literature and history is simply replete with issues that focus on what was going on in the church, synagogue or whatever at the time.

        The problems is when teachers who teach sociology step across the boundaries between just teaching the basics of these cultural issues and they start to tell kids what is right or what they should believe.
        The school needs to constantly keep its teachers aware of these issues and the necessary boundaries, that's all

  Correction, they are disrepectful to the prophet, who was considered a great man, because they did not pray to Allah, which is just one name for god or the divine masculine entity, that's all.
  Muslims do not pray to Mohammed, or any other prophet/ess. They pray to Allah/God, but they are also to live a life of obedience and believe that Mohammed recited the words of God in the Koran. Ergo they should be respectful to Mohammed as well.

The reality is, religions should all teach religious tolerance and there should be no compulsion in religion. We should learn to care for one another and respect one another's religious beliefs, including non-belief.
For a great book on the Koran which is all peace and love, try the Korana of Mother Goddess, available on Amazon dot com, lulu dot com and ebay (cheapest), or write me for a free e-copy download location (there are plenty on the internet, depending on format).
I sincerely hope the teacher learns this is not the way to promote good, kind and caring religion.
