FTA: "Speaking just for this Atheist convert, congratulations, Guys, You really did it! Thanks to all Your hard work, the rest of us know once and for all that the so-called "God" is everything You say he is: the biggest fraud of all time, cosmic Zero, ultimate no-show. And after all those centuries and promises, too. Like throwing the biggest rave ever, only to cancel at the last minute after everyone'd already bought tickets and drugs for it. What kind of Loser does that, anyway? If this were Facebook, no one would be friending him now."

The most important thing this article says is that it is possible that God does not exist.

If only Christians (and Muslims) could admit that possibility, we would have world peace.

To each his own, but i believe in God and nothing anyone can say is going to change that. There's more evidence that God exists than evidence to the contrary.

When i was a social worker, i had a client whose son had always been in gangs. He had killed, raped, stolen, done the drug thing and everything involved with being in a gang. One day he was shot, and killed. The paramedics were able to defib him, and when he came to he was screaming. He told graphically about going to hell, described it better than anyone could even from the Bible. Now that young man stays on circuit talking to youth all over the country about his experience and how it changed his life.

I have had too many of my own prayers answered to not believe, but as i said, to each his own.

That's proof? Well, it could be proof he has a very active imagination and a good future in sci-fi, I suppose.

not2needy. "There's more evidence that God exists than evidence to the contrary.".

Seems like you are saying that the "evidence to the contrary" is less than zero because zero is the figure that describes evidence of god .... unless, of course you can enlighten me.

I hate to burst your bubble but whatever will be will be and prayers have no impact on any outcome. Perhaps you could also remember the many times when your prayers have not been answered. What is your explanation for that? If praying is so damn good then why is there still so much evil and suffering despite all the organised prayer every Sunday when Christins pray enmasse for world peace? I will concede, however, that if you are a believer then praying has a certain strength in consoling you when facing up to a specific problem even if, in reality, you are merely talking to yourself.

"Please understand that I'm not criticizing here! Cheering for pornography and omnivorous sex and by extension, broken homes and abused and screwed up kids and all the rest of the revolution's fallout may not be everyone's thing; but most of You new atheist Guys have definitely made it Yours. I respect all that! I'm just saying for now that we shouldn't fool ourselves into thinking that the believers' sexual codes are an unmitigated bad on them and a plus for Us, when most evidence suggests it's quite the other way around."

This is great. I loved C.S. Lewis's Screwtape Letters, I can't say this is quite as good, the man was a genius and this is written from a different perspective, but it's very enjoyable and makes excellent points.

I hope you plan to post the second installment next week!

Never trust an atheist because if a person doesn't believe in God they will believe in anything.

This is a more stupid argument than "an atheist will sleep with his daughter".

BTW, trust is allways earned, either you're athesit, agnostic, budhists, muslim, christian, pagan, etc. I won't have a tendency to trust you more or less than anyone else.

I'm agnostic, I don't believe in any god, and I won't discriminate you or anyone for doing so or not.

I believe the statement, "never trust a theist, because if they believe in that assortment of pixie twaddle, they'll believe anything", makes much more sense.

Wolfie2007. "Never trust an atheist because if a person doesn't believe in God they will believe in anything."

What an absurd statement? What has believing in god got to do with trust? There is absolutely no correlation. There are believers and non believers who i trust with my life and their are believers and non believers who i would not trust under any circumstances. Who would you trust out of Richard Dawins or Ted Haggard (and i am talking about trust and not beliefs)?

The definition of Atheists is precisely that we do NOT believe in anything, and that is down to a total lack of proof or evidence.

Atheists may not have the numbers, but we have outlasted every religion imagined so far and no doubt will outlast every curent religion imagined today. So when current popular gods are forgotten, as all gods are with enough time, atheists will still be around not believing in whatever new gods are imagined.

Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. How narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it.

Quote:"It's not about what god you worship or don't worship. Live a simple life. Be a genuinely good person for the sake of being a genuinely good person. Be kind to your neighbor because it is the right thing to do, not because some holy book or even your government tells you to do it. Do it because it feels good and makes others feel good - not superficially good, but deep down to the core good. That should be all that is required of anyone. I wish I could upmod you twice!"

Romans 10:3 "The Jews being ignorant of the righteousness God (Jehovah) requires set about to establish their own" which means they agreed with you. They said, "we have thought this out and have settled on what we feel is reasonable and demand God accept our judgement on these matters and accept us."

But Paul says first that is simply not what God requires. You are relying on external rituals and good works and motives. God requires something else: Faith & Obedience
