I think the pope ought to try to understand people who believe differently from the way he does -- he should learn the meaning of the word "tolerance".

Well that depends doesn't it. What if someone believes that murder is OK? Should the pope be tolerant to that person's belief? What about the government? Should they be more tolerant towards crime? "Tolerance" is such a popular word nowadays but most people don't stop to think about what it would mean if absolute tolerance was the order of the day.

That should answer your view on what the Pope meant by "tolerance".
