" Despite clever spin from Obama's supporters about avoiding 'guilt by association,' much more is involved than casual association with people like Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger.
"In addition to giving $20,000 of his own money to Jeremiah Wright, as a state senator Obama directed $225,000 of the Illinois taxpayers' money for programs run by Father Pfleger. In the U.S. Senate, Obama earmarked $100,000 in federal tax money for Father Pfleger's work. Giving someone more than 300 grand is not just some tenuous, coincidental association.
"Are Barack Obama's views shown by what he says during an election year or by what he has been doing for decades before?"
Amen, Thomas Sowell!

Just because Fr. Pfleger indulges in tasteless and inappropriate (and forbidden, for him) comedy does not mean he is not a good custodian of his parish, and trustee of public monies. Clearly such an embarrassing display would be more appropriate pay-back to a foe than a benefactor, though. Senator Obama cannot be blamed for this, he is a victim here, as much as Senator Clinton.
I said in another thread that this priest's bishop should spank him. Well, thank you Cardinal Archbishop.

i keep seeing the osamabama and wright/trinity supporters bring up the "ommunity activist" aspect of obama and the rev wrong etc..it seems that hamas and osama built some shools and roads too..and the drug lord escobar was very popular..he bought soccer teams equipment and built housing..but in the end they are just like jackson and sharpton..race pimping thugs--this time with a anti-american marxist agenda

Cardinal George acted properly. The Church, in order to effective minister to ALL people, must remain politically neutral, and cannot condone statements which divide people along racial lines.
Father Pfleger has been an effective worker in the past, in ways that bring credit to the Church and real benefits the people of the parish and the greater community it serves. I expect that he will be able to resume these activities soon--as soon as it is apparent to all that his intrusion into politics does not reflect the attitude of the Catholic Church.

I think the Cardinal was *much* more worried about Pfleger's political comments than his racist comments. He has been warned before.
"The cardinal has made it clear to Father Pfleger in the past on more than one occasion that it's inappropriate to speak about political issues from the pulpit and that his own personal opinions are his own personal opinions."

Racist comments ok, political comments, not so much.

Just exactly what were the successes brought about by flakey Father Pflrger. and the taxpayer's $300,000? Name one thing, one person better off, just one. Where did the money go? Can we have an audit? Magnify that by 1,000,000 and that is how much President Obama would waste on Pfleger's social failures. Where would he get that money, you ask? From the military budget, when he defunds the military. Then his Muslim friends can do to America what they did to Europe.

Distemper and rabies shots are available through your veterinarian. Ask the folks who fill your dish to take you there. A round of shots will surely improve your attitude (and probably improve you logic).

The Bush Administration caught a lot of flak for supporting faith-based charities with federal funding. Yet, it appears Obama has been doing it even longer at the state level and again at the federal level.

In some religious communities, he who brings in the money is considered god. So if you are able to scratch god's back he will definitely scratch your back.
In this case Pfleger pops off with a very scathing 'sermon' about frustrated white entitlement and a personally slanderous and defaming sexist diatribe against Hillary Clinton(So far and as best I can tell, none of the DNC biggies complained about Hillary's misogynist trashing by this intellectually and morally small 'man of god'; it appears Harriet Christian was right.) so this enables St OBama to resign from his church, thereby giving him media-distance from a very troubling and damaging situation. A sweet and well executed extraction of OBama.
But the good father Pfleger and others should keep one thing in mind;
There is a 'big G' God as well as multiple 'little g' gods and 'The Big G' God does not like to share with the 'little g gods'.
Good luck y'all for you have just pixxed in your religious Post Toasties.

The parish is very active, with a school and social ministries (like job preparedness, AIDS awareness, elder care, etc.). Here is their home page:

So, Oscar, you have no answer to ani's question? Obviously, you don't as instead of giving an answer you stoop to insulting her, just typical liberal democrat behavior.

I wonder how many other of Obama's strange, weird and criminal friends we'll get to meet and grow familiar with before this thing is over?

A con-fest? Move over and let me have my two cent say. Pfleger is a race baiter when he paints blacks against whites and mocks those that supported Hillary and Hillary herself. But for you to say Obama is like him or holds the same values, you folks sound similar to Pfleger. Unsupportable supposition and a broad paint brush of guilt by church association is just that, bogus crap. But you don't surprise me, I expected no less.

" Obama has filtered more than $300,000 in taxpayer money to Pfleger."
$300,000 to a church with social programs, WOW. Would that be similar to the millions going to faith-based government programs of Bush? Or has he supported bills favorable to certain companies after receiving campaign contributions like McCain has done?

Who exactly is Obama? He is running away from his decades-long associations with racists, hate preachers, terrorists and radical left-wingers now that he is in the national spotlight spreading his message of hope, racial unity and bipartisanship.
Does he have any long term associations with pro-unity, non-racist, non-left wing radicals?
Unlike Chris ("tingle up my leg") Matthews and many others who love Obama, the hair on the back of my neck raises at the prospect of Obama being the president.

"He injected a skit that could not be far off what Clinton could possibly have been thinking."
Interesting. Clinton has no association whatsoever with south side Chicago, and Pfleger is a priest. Yet you somehow think it's his place to pretend to know what Clinton is thinking much less interjecting politics into a local "sermon."
There can be only stupid reasons for that kind of political race-baiting from the pulpit. It was full of prejudice and bigotry, and fools eat it right up.

For the longest time we've had to "amuse" ourselves with the likes of Jerry Fallwell (Bless his corpulent soul!), Pat Robertson, and a host of other "country preachers" suddenly striking it rich on the "Scare-them-into-Giving" circuit.
Now, finally, ecumenism has caught up with the "Men of God".
Aahhh, Religion!

This episode, I am sad to say, does not reflect well on the Roman Catholic Church.
This Pfleger has been pulling outrageous stunts for many years. At some point, he even ADOPTED children, against the wishes of the Archdiosece, yet when he went ahead, the Cardinal and his Bishop did NOTHING!
Not good!
That sort of laxness in discipline is what has directly led to this mess, and all the other outrages this Pfleger has perpetrated.
Where is the accountability?
I love my Roman Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ, and greatly admire SO MANY clergy in that church, but I am troubled and saddened by these sorts of lapses in accountability.
Why wasn't Pfleger sent off to some monastery on a little islet of rock in the middle of the Mediterranean YEARS ago and cloistered for the rest of his life, along with Cardinal Mahoney, Cardinal Law, and all the pedophile priests?

Greetings!
That is too bad, and I am saddened to hear that. I did hear that one particular priest in Mexico who had committed a series of heinous molestations was sent off somewhere to 'live a life of contemplation', over his crimes, I suppose.
The sad part is that it is spelled out pretty clearly in the Bible as to what sort of discipline the church should take, and that especially applies to those who assume the role of elders and teachers, and that applies to someone like Pfleger.
Albert Mohler goes over this concept in a very thorough way, citing the relevant Biblical passages:

Temporarily?! Why just temporarily? Why not just defrock him and be done w/it. And whoever Jeremiah Wright answers to should to the same thing to him. Boot him out! Today! I don't understand why religion is used to promote hate! It's stupid.
