Religion – Sometimes we can try and try to find the answers we need, but it is not until we just sit back and allow God to work that we come to the true answer.
Your private message was a devotional in itself.
You are so right brett. We all get complacent and forget to study God's word for our various reasons/(excuses).
When I stay out of the word my flesh begins to take over. When I stay out of the word I begin to look at the world the way I use to. When I stay out of the word I start beginning to feel that I am inching backwards. Because I believe that you are either growing closer to the Lord or you are moving away. There is no in-between.
I thought it was funny coincidence, as yesterday I made a recipe that I added 'marinara sauce' to. I NEVER use it so I think that pretty funny to read you post.
Thanks for your prayer.
BTW- my recipe was pretty good.
I wonder what your last words will be? Probably, "Hey, look...all my friends...ouch, those flames are hot!"
Just because I don't believe, then I'm sent to hell? Why would god be that spiteful? I've lived a more moral life than 100 percent of the Christians anyway. Why would I want to spend an eternity in Heaven if he/she/it's no better than the Devil? Comments like that really make me wonder how the church turns seemingly inteeligent people into illogical, irrational, unthinking individuals.
I see God in my daughters smile. I hear him in her laugh. I see God when I go outside and enjoy the sun, smell the fresh air, hear the birds, and that takes all my stress and worry away. I see God all over the place.
You dont. That is your right. Leave me my right to see him, and hope that some day you will too.
You constantly repeat "there is no evidence". That doesnt mean it doesnt exist. It just means we may not have found evidence yet (at least evidence to satisfy you.) 100 years ago we had "no evidence" of a lot of things we know now. Think of what we may know in 100 more years.
"Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow."
Tommy Lee Jones - Men in Black.
Marinara Sauce? I feel the noodly appendage of the FSM has blessed us with his presence again.
Ramen!
Hopefully, next Monday I don't have to see this garbage on the front page.
The big imaginary friend in the sky for adults is absolutely preposterous. I just wonder when people will get smart enough not to believe in this garbage.
Hey folks, when you use critical thought, rationality, and logic it becomes perfectly clear that this is all made up. But I guess the sheeple need to be lead.
Midleft, what is you're purpose in life besides being an irritant to people's sense of spirituality? Why do you feel a need to verbally attack people who have done no harm to you but obtain a belief in an existential supreme being? Does it bother you that people go by faith alone? and that maybe perhaps in you're diatribes that you really subconciously envy them for it? You call these people "morons" but I notice you, and toph1973 are the ones making with the typo's here. What's up with that?
You should learn to accept people as they are, respect their sense of spiritual beliefs, and let it go at that. Vitriolic hyperbole isn't going to make or score any points. Because you're arguments aren't cogent, nor bearing any fruit at all.
If Brett's articles bothers you, and toph so much, then by all means, don't participate in the post at all. Unless you feel duty bound for some illicit reason.
Bronx and "Son," I'll tell you what engenders such vigorous responses. One's religious beliefs are quite personal to that person. I don't tell you about my bowel movements, so don't tell me about your religious belifs. I don't want to hear or know about them, especially Christianity, which I consider to be a total fairy tale, no different from Santa Claus or the Toothfairy.
Another "source," very well known, is the repeated attempts to subvert our secular civic life by injection of the fairy tale into our political structure. We have specific rules of foundational law that keep that fairy tale, and all others like it from imbedding themselves into civics or law. Yet, like the subversives that you are, you creepy Christians keep trying to overthrow a society that thousands of men have died fighting to maintain.
What Propeller ought to do is create a "Christian" thread so the rest of us will see it coming and stay away.
The "sunday devotional" title didnt tip you off? Or the fact that it was posted under the religion topic? Or the fact that these are a regular Sunday posting here on propeller? Were you somehow tricked into reading this threat and commenting?
If you posted a thread or a story on your bowel movements, I wouldnt come and criticize you for it. That is your right. So why come and criticize these posts?
First of all, those who have read the article with an open heart and with love and reverence for our Lord, thank you.
For the rest of you, you've made your point that you despise our religion are trying to make a mockery of Christianity; but, I assure you that as much as you hate our presence in "your" community, we will continue to worship and spread Christ's message of repentance and salvation as He commanded us to do.
I appreciate those who stand firm in the faith and defend our beliefs against the narrow-minded, and I hope you will never be ashamed to do so. As Christ said, if we are ashamed of Him on earth, He will be ashamed of us before His Father.
Finally, I pray that those with such hatred in their hearts will rethink their positions and will examine the other side for once. Open a Bible, read the New Testament, and learn. And, don't go into it with a closed mind. That's all I have left to say on the issue for the time being.
God bless.
"redLine:" I hope I would never have the tasteless lunacy to post anything on line about my bowel movements. Why don't you creepy Christians have the same restraint?
Beyond that, since I'm not a Christian, I didn't get the "devotional" part, nor do I notice what is posted on Sunday as opposed to the other days of the week. Again, I think Propeller needs a "Christian" thread so others like me won't make the same mistake.
They have a Religion thread, under which this was posted. If you dont believe (which is your right) then why read stories posted under that? Or maybe you need to spend some time paying more attention to the categories where the stories are posted, if it offends you so much.
Why do we post stories and articles about God? Because our faith means more to us than you realize. You can try to minimize it or degrade it by comparing it to bowel movements all you want, but that wont deter us from our faith.
If the OP decided to share his thoughts and prayers, why cant they? No one forces you to come here and read it. No one is forcing you to comment on it. No one is even putting it "in your face" - this is but one story out of how many?
I think you just come here, like Midleft, to call people names and attempt to put them down because they believe something you dont. You can call us creepy all you want - that is better than being full of hate and venom like you and Midleft.
A "religion" thread is very generalized. Although one might contend that religious expression falls under that heading, so do other intellectual interests like religion and world history, religion and philosophy, God or atheism and even separation of church and state. Therefore, a more particularized heading like "Christian" better communicates that religious expressions are more likely to be found there.
You also miss the point, probably deliberately. I don't care about, nor do I aim to "deter" you from your professed faith. If you claim you get spiritual succor from believing your front door knob is your savior, who am I to disagree about what you experience? What offends me is you and others like you who maintain that I and the rest of society have to hear about it. It's interesting that you project unto me the idea of "putting it in your face." My affront comes from you people putting that sh*t in society's face both through threads like these, and your continued efforts to subvert our secular society. In fact, isn't that what "evangelical" means, putting your "faith" in the faces of others?
You were the one who came here and got offended, no one forced you! You didnt pay attention to the category of the post. Then, when you started reading and realized it was a prayer, decided to continue, get offended, and voice your offense on this thread.
It is your right to speak your mind, but it isnt your right to blame the poster of this prayer for somehow offending you. You had ample opportunity to ignore or leave this thread, but you choose not to.
So society isnt putting this "sh*t" in your face, you are actively jumping into it, face first.
If you dont know what "devotional" means, look it up. If you find yourself on a prayer thread, leave. Its ridiculous to stay here and call people names, make fun of their faith, and blame them for you basically "offending" yourself.
I have never personally forced my faith on to anyone. To me faith is a very personal thing. But the poster of this prayer has every right to post here, just as anyone does.
And I never said you attempted to deter me or anyone from my faith. I said you and midleft actively choose to come here, call people names and attempt to make fun and belittle other peoples beliefs. At least midleft doesnt try to hide behind the excuse of "oh, you offended me. I didnt realize this was a prayer thread".
You were looking to be offended, or faking offense just so you can call people names, liken their faith to bowel movements, and say they are forcing you to do something.
And you might want to look around out there. You know there are such things as "non evangelical christians" and "evangelical free churches". Not everyone fits into your little stereotype.
And it's not a "prayer" thread, you moron. Like I said, the thread allows for many intellectual topics connected to "religion." Prayer is not a matter of the intellect but an experience. Therefore, it would be proper to have a separate thread so that those who want the experience can gather, and people like me can avoid them.
Finally, I really don't care to "look around out there." I'm not a Christian, nor will I ever be. I don't give a damn about whatever gradations exist among fundamentalists. All I see are thousands of them infecting our political processes and trying to subvert our secular society. That makes me very, very mad.
It's simple...either don't read these threads if they are offensive or go ahead and read them, get offended, and comment by insulting people who believe differently than you.
You've already tried the latter course of action. How about trying the former? It'll lead to less heartburn for you, I'm sure.
And, by the way, religious expression can be public. It doesn't have to be confined to places of worship or our homes. Sorry to disappoint if you thought otherwise.
You dont get the details, do you? THIS is a prayer THREAD in a RELIGION TOPIC. There are many threads in this TOPIC, but this is a PRAYER THREAD. You either read the story & the first post (also a prayer) & decided to post, or you ignored both the story & the initial post and decided to post. Either way, YOU decided to be here. Dont pretend to be offended by the poster when you decided to be here.
Its like dialing in a Christian radio station, then calling them to complain that you are offended that they play "God songs".
I could see you getting mad that someone came to your door, or called you, or stopped you on the street to confront you about religion and belief. But you had ample opportunity to see what this THREAD is about, what TOPIC it was in, and avoid the "subversive" message. You didnt, so its your responsibility. You in effect offended yourself by reading and posting here.
And Im the moron.....
And what is your solution? Have a specific "prayer" thread? Then what? Does propeller have to have a "muslim prayer" thread, and a "catholic prayer thread", and a "taoist prayer thread"? Where does it stop? Would the devide the "sports" TOPIC into baseball, basketball, hockey, tiddleywinks etc...

Well, I would say this is becoming a tradition for our little group, and it seems to be a good one. So, once again, here is an opening prayer:
Heavenly Father,
I pray that all Christians will be inspired to examine Your Word, and to have the true meaning revealed under the guidance of Your Holy Spirit. It is often difficult to let go of preconceived notions about various doctrines, and just let You speak, but that is what has to be done sometimes.
I also pray that Christians can be led to better understanding of one another, and be drawn towards a reunification of Your One Church. This is something that has been weighing on me heavily lately, and I just ask You to reveal all the answers soon.
And, finally, please bless all who enter this time of devotion, whether they are Christians or not. We need to show our love and respect to all our brothers and sisters, and we need to be Christ-like as we demonstrate Christianity to the world.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Amen
Amen
Thanks, Brett!
And what the heck does marinara sauce have to do with Christianity?
Now if the postulation were that it represents the blood of Christ there might JUST be some point to the story - though it would be no less idiotic.
Great way to give religion a bad name and make it a laughing stock!
Like Islam and violence?
Christinaity started this all withe the crusades. Christians set the cornerstone for 9/11.
FYI, the Crusades were at the request of the Byzantine Empire which was defending itself against a series of Islamic invasions. Read some history and get back to me. This is a lie! The West didn't deserve the Islamic attack of 9-11 anymore than it deserved the invasion of the Eastern Roman Empire, Spain, France, or Barbary Pirate raids that kidnapped slaves as far North as Britain. You don't have an historical leg to stand on with this lame and ignorant argument.
This post is beneath you, gama. I'm sorry to see it. I'm hoping you were just having a bad day. If so, I understand, I've been there.
I think the point of the marinara sauce is quite obvious in the article.
If you don't like the topic leave. This topic is something for believers.
If Christianity is so wrong then explain the FACT written about by secular historians that the tomb of Jesus was empty. That is the fact that Christianity stands or falls on. Prove it was not miraculous. Remember that there were two Roman Guards there. If I remember correctly a Roman Guard consisted of 4 soldiers.
This is his obligatory "attack religion" post.
"If Christianity is so wrong then explain the FACT written about by secular historians that the tomb of Jesus was empty."
Could you name those historians and their sources, please?
Thanks for yet another inspiring article, Bret.
God bless you.
