In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.

His retirement. No it has to do with the fact that he is now a member of the Obama Campaign as a adviser. At the end of a Good Morning America segment today about Barack Obama's pastor, the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., an Obama campaign representative complained that John McCain's pastor had not been similarly "vetted." If that's true, then ABC or some other media outlet surely should and will do so.
Let's imagine that upon vetting, McCain's pastor is found to have made statements that were the mirror-image of those that Rev. Wright has made. How long would McCain remain a viable candidate? Source: Newsbuster

Let's consider Casey's defense: that ABC is doing to Obama what some in the media did to JFK in 1960. But Kennedy was born into a worldwide religion. Here, Obama as an adult chose to become a congregant in a very specific church, and chose that church's leader as his personal "spiritual advisor." He chose Rev. Wright to perform his wedding ceremony and to baptize his children, and credits Rev. Wright with devising the title of Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope."

Reverend Wright is the racist.
Obama has been a member of this church for 20 years and has been there for many a sermon just like this one. Attendance for 20 years might make most people think he approves of this man and his messages. Wright isn't just Obama's Pastor he is a personal friend. He performed Obama's wedding, he baptized Obama's children. Most of us would be X Church members and X friends with a Pastor that promotes an anti-american agenda and is an out and out racist like Reverend Wright.

Do you think any of the many, many WHITE members of his congregation ((in one of the most liberal, racially diverse churches in America) know about this "hateful" preacher? You cons don't become distraught when Bush slams entire religions with "words" like Islamofascists" and insults people of other nations by labeling them part of the "axis of evil."
And I don't know why you people are pretending to be scandalized by something that happened several years ago (but conveniently popped up only recently) and by sentiments that have reverberated throughout America and the rest of the world. I suppose it's news to you that our foreign policy is reviled among both our allies *and* enemies. And for this douchebag to say that the Three Strikes law is there to keep blacks down is just fcking stupid! If you commit 3 felonies you should be shot dead immediatly! And the poor? How are they treated badly? We freaking give them free money and health care so they can sit at home. Not to mention that fact that "Bush's tax cuts for the rich" cut the amount of federal taxes for someone making $30,000 a year by nearly 40%. How will B.O. or Hillary be helping the poor by repealing those as they have stated they would do first thing?
Give me a freaking break Meso. I grew up about as poor as it gets. Short of actually being homeless. (we had a car) I even dropped out of high school, ran the streets and got involved in drugs. By 21 I decided to straighten up and become a member of this society, not just a drain on it. By 25 I bought a home and had two cars. I have also since gone back to school and will have a degree by the time I'm 30. So don't give me that ishk about the poor. All it takes is hard work and determination.

--But tangy, this only tells us what most people already know--that the Democratic party is very progressive and inclusive and the GOP is... well, let's not dwell on the negative.
The point is, it's wonderful that we have a woman and a black man running for President but that doesn't mean we (Republlicans, especially) shouldn't want to examine why the two parties are almost literally like night and day when it comes to ethnic and gender representation.

And if you're referring to the additional minority delegates that were hastily added in 2004, I'm not sure that's reason to brag (considering that, for the most part, they weren't elected by black voters).

--I don't remember implying thatthat Pelosi is the reason that there are numerous Democratic Congress members who are women and minorities and I only mentioned Powell et al because I wanted to know what criteria you were using to claim that the GOP had all these women and minorities in "high" places.

First, a lifestyle suggests the way in which you live your life. I currently live in a more suburban or rural part of PA. As a result, I live a far slower lifestyle with more contemporary decor than I prefer.
Sexual identity is the term you seek. As for gays not being allowed to marry, how swiftly you forget Massachusetts or other countries like Spain, South Africa, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, etc. Marriage is also a civil matter not just a religious one. Before spreading any more nastiness, remember your audience.

David, it should not hurt as I did not say it was my opinion. I was merely pointing out that marriage, aka Holy Matrimony comes from a book that Does say homosexuality is an abomination. That's the sad truth. I also did not mention civil unions. Which are and should be different than marriage in the sense that religion should be left out of civil unions.
Now, since you are here and commented about spreading nastiness, I must ask you about this:

Bothers me.Obama says he doesn't agree with everything his pastor says, but he did name his book after one of Wright's sermons "The Audacity Of Hope." He thanks his "spiritual leader" in the book as well. Obama has already publicly declared his affinity and affiliation with Pastor Wright, a hate-monger that is violent in his rhetoric.
True Obama isn't responsible for what the Reverend says but he is responsible for attending a church for 20 years. If being a member for 20 years doesn't show support for the Church and Pastor what does?

Do you remember the Viet Nam era, BoBo? TONS of rhetoric against American policy from clergy of almost every denomination. And warnings that the Wrath of God would fall on us. I do somewhat agree that this church is his choice, as it is for many, but I have more than once disputed with my priest the contents of a sermon, and in the case of a very homophobic spiel told one that I would stand up in church and rebut him if it ever happened again. It is a bit different for me, being Catholic, as I have attended the same church for 50 yrs, and priests come and go at the whim of the bishop.

But Obama is responsible for who he sits in front of every Sunday. It is common sense that if your pastor speaks what this pastor did, you either call him on it, or you find a different pastor. Obama did neither, which signifies his agreement with what the pastor said.

So it's support your country whether it's right or wrong? Blacks still fight an uphill battle but are called un-American if the cry foul? Look at how many Black fought and died for their country but never got the recognition they deserved. How many people here think if Katrina had of made land fall in New York or some other part of the country help would have arrived so much faster? After being treated a second class citizens from the time they were freed from slavery to the present times should they still say God bless America?

There is a HUGE difference between decrying the actions of some of your countrymen, or even most of them, and calling down the wrath of God on your country. What sort of a Christian would do this? What country has the largest number of middle-class, well-to-do, and rich black citizens? Have you seen the house this preacher lives in? How much money do you suppose HE gave to hurricane relief? Few blacks in America have spent more time fighting racism than I have, and I am white. Dissent is the sincerest kind of patriotism, but to shout GOD DAMN AMERICA from your pulpit goes beyond dissent. I do not believe our failure with Katrina was racist, I believe it was POLITICAL primarily and falls right into the same lap as the SECONDARY cause of having our National Guard out of the country when there is NO pressing military reason to do so.

Ask the question is there nothing to what pastor Wright said? Much of what he said has factual information to back it up but it's still wrong to say it, why? 9/11 was because of Americas actions in other countries, it was reaping the whirlwind as they say. And the way America as a country treats minorities is shameful for a country claiming to be as advanced as it is. Now your belittling not only the pastor who is trying to see thing change but a man who attends his church for one reason alone, politics. But I don't think it's you don't like his politics, I just think you don't like the truth.
