While some current church leaders portray the LDS Church as Christian, the church actually has a long history of condemning Christianity. The church has even suggested that Islam is better than Christianity. Excerpts from the Book of Mormon...

If a presidential candidate was a member of the Church of Satan, voters would definitely want to know more about his core beliefs.Simply wanting some answers about a candidates religion is no less fair than wanting to know their beliefs about economics.

Interesting. What have 'christian' churches said about the mormon religion, I wonder? Or catholics about protestants, protestants about catholics? Too many in our country have lost perspective of where religion stands in politics. Kennedy said it perfectly:

      http://www.davidinmanhattan.com/president-john-...

Might I suggest that you view the second video down. It is so relevant to where we find ourselves today, it's as though John Kennedy speaks to our times, outside of his time. Romney is no John Kennedy. When he made his recent remarks concerning religion, he failed to show an understanding of its place in government. It would be for that reason alone he would never have my vote. Not for what religion he belongs to.

I read the Moorman Bible when I was younger. I thought it was pretty good science fiction - although not very imaginitive.

I mean, basically, Joe Smith rewrote the Bible, but changed all the locations to American cities and towns.

jordan11: It was like Kennedy could see into the future and see the morass we are in now because of the simple minded fools. Who claim to be Christian yet are far from it. I had almost forgoten how much I respected and admired Mr. Kennedy for his strength of belief in America. Compare that to Bush. There is no comparison Bush is out of the picture he is so far behind.

I thought he made it very clear what the place of religion in government should be:

"Let me assure you that no authorities of my church, or of any other church for that matter, will ever exert influence on presidential decisions. Their authority is theirs, within the province of church affairs, and it ends where the affairs of the nation begin."

"As governor, I tried to do the right as best I knew it, serving the law and answering to the Constitution. I did not confuse the particular teachings of my church with the obligations of the office and of the Constitution รข;; and of course, I would not do so as president. I will put no doctrine of any church above the plain duties of the office and the sovereign authority of the law."

I knew nothing about mormons when I first arrived in UT but there is a general resentment from non mormons here mostly because the church pushes it's beliefs into laws.

I have learned alot about mormons and I believe that they were persecuted and harrassed because of their religion and denied their 1st amendment rights.

Personally,if a candidate had 3 wives it wouldn't affect my vote at all,but I would want to know more about his beliefs.Mormons believe that you can't get to heaven unless you have at least 3 wives,I think Christians deserve to know this and that it's not unfair to ask.

Everyone will base their decision on a candidate on whether they fit their beliefs and more information makes a better decision.

If that were true, I wouldn't have ever voted. I don't believe in gods, but base my vote on the candidate's background. Who they are. What they've done. Where they've been. And most importantly, that they would honor the Constitution above all else, should they be elected. After voting for 46 years, I've only heard so much talk about religion 4 times. The first was JFK, and his response to it was perfect. In 2000, 2004, and this time....the reasons for religion being discussed are skewed. We are experiencing a religious test, completely against the intentions of our founders. Their intention was secular.

the mormons were persecuted and harassed because they abused women, murdered people and defrauded their flock.

mormonism is nothing but a ponzi scheme that promises a limited amount of seats in heaven for the select few complete with mandatory tithing excessive reproduction to increase the ranks and mandatory service (mission) to drum up new applicants.

indians are jews turned brown by god for losing religion?

            eden is in missouri?

magic gold tablets translated with seeing stones?

no blacks until they were federally forced to allow it?

            masonic symbols on magic underwear?

And there you hav e the rub. No doubt, whatever he says, Mitt will try to run the U.S. government the way the Mormons run Salt Lake and Utah.

The Mormons already showed that power supercedes principle for them, by agreeing to alter their religious beliefs in order to become a state. Especially since they went to Utah in the first place to AVOID being under the U.S. government.

You realize that the doctrines of all organized religion are foolish, not just this one. One must be 6 years old or brain damaged to actually believe this crap.

I do question the Mormon faith, I don't understand those that don't follow the multiple wife and other rules just don't leave and join a Christian Church.

I feel it is wrong to be in the campaign at all. As long as the person lives a moral life, has a wife and great family, abides by the laws of America then their religion is no ones business.

If he was parading 3 wifes and dozens of kids it would be a different story. I think it takes away from the politics of this person which should be the real issue, IMHO

But would you support a candidate that rebuked the notion of God as the creator and master of our world? Certainly a much more logical position that Mormonism which absolutely strains credulity. Agnostic and atheists are the ones truly discriminated against in the political arena. You never see a candidate decrying faith as foolish and insipid. Instead you hear these ridiculous proclamtions of faith that have nothing to do with reality. Certainly that is the case with Mormonism amd IMO the current belief system of many fundamentalist Christians and Muslims.

I don't know if he is doing it any where else, but here in Florida he is running ads bashing Hillary Clinton.

Why is he running ads against her when he isn't the Rep. Candidate and she isn't the Dem. Candidate??

Any one else see these dumb ads?

I haven't seen those ads, but I can tell you why he's running them, and it doesn't matter whether she's the candidate, or that they're in separate primary races and not running against each other.

During Romney's speech yesterday, I noticed Daddy Bush and Barbara Bush were there. That makes me suspect Romney and his connections in politics. I don't want a Bush anywhere near any candidate these days.

I have met many Mormons and they were intelligent hard working people. We see less religious tolerance now. It would be hard to imagine in our current time a muslim as president, or an atheist.

Look at what is happening in Germany, they want to ban the Church of Scientology. Brings back bad memories of how they treated the Jews in the 30's.

Why not a Muslim president? One should not be judged by his faith but by his conviction and deeds. Faith sould not be a criteria to run for office. Faith is a 'private matter' and the US Constitution guarantees our 'freedom of religion' regardless what it is. All organized religions are derived from some form of 'cult'. Any time one believes and prays to a God, that person becomes a member of an organized cult.

they are banning Scientology because it is not a religion, it's a scam that destroys families and usurps wealth from others.

I applaud them for actively routing out a criminal organization and protecting their citizens.

Banning Scientology is an excellent idea. L.Ron Hubbard was an even bigger conman than Joseph Smith.

No one wants to burn Scientologists, we just want to mock them, deride them, and generally hold them up to public ridicule and disrepute.

Actually the Bible is considered the oldest history book we have by many historians. While they may not believe all of it is true there are many references that are historical fact from that period of time. When reconstructing the history of man. Many things are cross reference by the bible.

Sorry to burst your bubble but skeletons of much larger persons have been found. Goliath was shorter than one found in Germany. There easily could have been a race or a family of large persons. Look at the baseball players we have today. And there are "giants" (extra large persons) among us today.

But I agree with the assessment of Mormonism. J. Smith stole the story off of a tavern keeper and rewrote it a little. He was short on education and strictly a con-man.

Mormons are Christian and all of them that I have met are a lot less judgmental and crazy then those of you leaving bigoted comments on here. Other Christian churches are just scared of the mormons because their church is growing so fast. I had a pastor once start telling our congregation how evil Mormons are and I got up and walked out because the only thing that's evil is being intolerant of others for their race, religion or gender. I have several Mormon friends and I've never heard any of them say something unkind about other religions.

Very simply, the Mormons are NOT 'Christian', because they do not believe in the tenets described in the Apostle's Creed, which every other church, from Easten Orthodox, Anglican, Catholic, Lutherans and Methodists all do. If Mormons are 'Christian', then so are Muslims and and Zorastrians.

Wasn't it Mark Twain who called Mormonism "American Islam"? I don't know if those were his exact words, but, IF he said that, hey, I agree with the guy. Both religions were supposedly started by an angel, bringing a "holy" book to a prophet that claimed the Bible to be "God's Word", but, to have been corrupted. Apparently, with Islam, it was VERY corrupted, since there is so much about Jesus going to the cross, and, the Quran says Jesus DIDN'T go to the cross.

I have several acquaintences who are Mormon, and as far as personal values and integrity go, I esteem them pretty highly. I believe your comparison with Islam is incorrect ... Perhaps Nazi-Amish better describes them. In any event, for the most part, they seem to be committed to their beliefs.
