Al Gore's friends.
Phelps has run in Kansas Democratic Party primaries five times. These included races for governor and the 1992 Democratic Party primary for U.S. Senate. Phelps received 31% of the vote.
Phelps supported Al Gore in the 1988 Democratic Party primary election. his 1984 Senate race, Gore opposed a "gay bill of rights" and stated that homosexuality was not something that "society should affirm". Phelps has stated that he supported Gore because of these earlier comments. According to Phelps, members of the Westboro Baptist Church helped run Gore's 1988 campaign in Kansas. Phelps' son, Fred Phelps Jr., hosted a Gore fundraiser, which Al and Tipper Gore attended, at his home in Topeka. Fred Phelps, Jr. served as a Gore delegate to the 1988 Democratic National Convention.
Author Keith R. Wood suggested in 2004 that Phelps' protests are being funded by NAMBLA to draw unfavorable attention toward Christians to make them afraid to speak about morality.

KingofTruth(?) and King1Con's Orwellian Lies are as absurd as the 'Hitler was a Liberal/Leftist' variety of DoubleThink. Fred Phelps is an extreme Conservative. For him, God is a Fascist. Phelps has a highly negative view of Human Nature: only he and his band of fellow nut-jobs are going to make it to Heaven. The only reason that Phelps backed Castro was because of the latter's anti-gay policies. Al Gore is anti-gay? More Orwellian crap. And if Democrats are anti-gay, then why do gays overwhelmingly vote for Dems? Besides a 'far-left' religious bigot, would be a Communist ( aka atheist ) religious bigot. Which makes no sense.

Westboro Baptist Church and Phelps, in my opinion, are wackos, and anyone with any common sense should be able to see that. Al Gore is friends with them though, the facts there speak for themselves. Birds of a feather fly together?
Anyone tacky enough or lacking that much in respect for another human being to protest at their funerals, as far as I'm concerned, needs you know what kicked....and right on the spot! It's like the reporter who asks the mother how she feels when she has just watched her daughter run over by an 18 wheeler? How do you think she feels? (probably like whacking you over the head with her purse and tossing you under those wheels?)

As always you got it wrong, I care greatly about the dignity of my friends, family, and neighbors funerals.Funny how you think those who oppose war lose nothing in them. These folks are BAD. This is not about YOUR politics, this is about BAD behavior from supposedly religious people. I thought most would agree this was awful stuff. But it shows how a Jim Jones or Ted Hagard can influence weak minded people to follow their "teachings". As for my personal beliefs,(though irrelevant to the story). I can assure you that I was clinically gone on one occasion after my car was hit at high speed (Ironically by a preacher yapping on a cell phone). He was doing twice the speed limit and ran a red light.

I just love how some of you conservatives think that just because we don't support this war that we would approve of this type of behavior at soldiers funerals. We support our troop and don't wish any harm on them. They are doing an excellent job in impossible conditions. We want them out of harms way. We don't want to bring shame or more hurt to them or their families.
As for having faith I once had faith. I was brought up in a christian household. It was during confirmation class that I started to question my faith. None of what I was being taught added up. Most christians don't know what they actually believe. If they did they wouldn't believe it. You yourself demonstrate this by stating that you hope our end is very painful. That is not following the teachings of Christ. Try reading your bible instead of thumping it so much.

To condone such evil actions committed under the auspices of faith shows a profound lack of understanding of love or spirituality in general. Where is God, any god, in this man's message? How is there love or kindness or compassion? I hear and see only hatred and bigotry that is unfounded by experience or understanding. This man is hardly a representative of anything just.
Please rewatch this video and reread any stories about this man to understand his true motives. How can you defend his actions?

Radio and Atlas May I cut in? In the laws of Moses Leviticus 18:22 says No man is to have sexual relations with another man;God HATES that. TEV But in John 8:6-11 Jesus tells "Us without sin to cast the first stone." You Christians judging others better watch out for judgement day too. Because you are breaking Jesus' 2nd commandment "LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF!"

Atlas-shrugged,
You claim:"...you see this is where all of the faithless fail. a life time of rejecting the ideal and at that supreme moment of truth the atheist always caves in....... JUST IN CASE."
Not "always". Ever heard of David Hume? In the weeks leading up to Hume's death, James Boswell paid a visit to his friend and asked, "But is it not possible that there may be a future state, where we shall all account for our sins?". Chuckling, Hume replied, "`Tis possible that a piece of coal, put upon the fire, will not burn, but to suppose so is not at all reasonable. It is a most unreasonable fancy that we should exist forever. If it were at all, immortality must be general; the infant who dies before being possessed of reason; the half-wit; the Porter drunk with gin by ten o'clock - all must be preserved and new Universes must be created to contain such vast numbers."

Furthermore, A-shrug, while I'm not, strictly speaking, an atheist, I can assure you that there will be no appeal to the God of Christianity on my deathbed. After all, even if "HE" exists, I'd sooner burn in Hell than bow down and "worship" such a Childish Tyrant!

"God Hates the World." Of course those who know the truth know that God hates sin, not the world, in fact He sent His son to save the world. And they were so grateful they killed him???
Westboro Baptist Church and Phelps are real nut cases I fear. Then there are some small groups that hold venemous snakes while holding services. I think there was more in the sacrament wine than we've been told. It would not surprise me tofind Al and Tipper Gore in his company either. After all isn't Gore the guy who is warning us about global warming, then he pays more to heat his mansion in one month than most people pay in non renewal energy in a year?
When are we going to start electing statesmen to our offices again? There are a few. When will we read our own Bibles, watching for details so you don't follow these silly fools. If you don't you're going to be sipping cool-aid again in Guana? I guess I've been lucky. I don't accept at face value what anyone claims to be the truth.

Your facts are not up to date.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverend_Fred_Phelps
The reverend has rejected Al Gore and Bill Clinton since 1992.
Not only that, he commonly expouses views shared by social conservatives on the far-right spectrum, namely his comments on Sept 11.

They seem to be equal-opportunity haters, willing to target anyone who doesn't agree with their ideology. Sound familiar (See the Bush Administration)

Oh, they have an answer for that one. Please go to their website (www.godhatesfags.com) and read what they say about the very verse you just quoted. It is amazing and very scary. They claim to be a very loving people just doing their duty is all. The little girl who comes on at the end of this video is so sad. The indoctrination of what she is being now taught I fear will be with her all her life. Sad.

If they were Baptists, they are presumed to believe the Holy Scripture, which never speaks of God's wrath in the later part of the New Testament. The Bible instead reveals how "God so love the World, that he sent His only Son to save the whole world." ...And salvation is achieved by believing in the One sent. This group has already condemned some people who are given chance by God to repent while still living on earth. As far as i know there are 5 different denominations in the Baptist Church. Maybe this group is the sixth...?

They have every right to believe what they want to about God and every right to peacefully assemble in America, but do they have a right of intimidation of others in their assemblies? Personally, I think their rights end at their nose. Do you think it is their right of the brainwashing of the innocent? Observe the cute little innocent girl in the video. Hmmm. I feel for the little girl, but she more than likely will grow up to be just like them. I wonder where that really puts free will?

I agree with you, but get a load of their argument against "Christianity teaches to hate the sin, NOT the sinner." It is just remarkable how devastating proof texting and literal interpretations of scriptures has on people. Their systematic theology really is depraved. Can you imagine how impossible it might be for them to be un-indoctrinated? WOW

These people, who claim to be Christians, take the name of their lord in vain with that song. With that stupid glee on their faces as they sing of hate.
They are too ugly to laugh at. These idiots are so far removed from the teachings of Christ, they should be ashamed.
Sadly, they are not. I guess it's good to be aware that such nut cases exist and have gathered together. But it does not gladden my heart in the least.

yes, I thought that was funny also. I wonder where their trust in God went when they ran for their lives? Didn't they want to finish their testimony? They were not too much like Elijah, the prophet of God, who just laid all over the wood pile and mocked the 200 enemies he faced knowing His God was fixing to kill all them in their showdown. As much as they like to quote the old testament, seems like their faith might be similar to the ones the old testament stories are about, but instead, they ran. Didn't they have enough faith in God that he would save them in their funeral showdown? They had the state police surrounding them, and they still fled. LOL

Makes me think of the passage in the gospel where the women were weeping for Jesus as he passed to the crucifixion. "Weep not for me but for your children, for they will suffer in my name." I always thought it referred to those who would suffer for being Christian, but now I think perhaps he meant the people who would use his name unjustly, who promote hate with the guise of being Christian. Groups like this make people suffer because the name of Jesus, which is completely the antithesis of his teachings.

KOT,
Can't let you off on that one, they are in the conservative camp. Unlikely to be Gore supporters there. I understand they supported Tipper's CD labeling, not Al per se.
