This bias has always been my impression and is yet another proof that it is the right wing that controls media. The media being portrayed as liberal is a myth and utter nonsense. The media is corporate controlled, that is big bsuiness interests, that is rich people..in other words: Republicans!

There are a few main-stream news organizations that exhibit a liberal slant in regards to their 'straight' journalism (what they choose to report, how they present it). Just as there are others that exhibit a conservative style. The media in general is just another engine for profit, which means one thing: Regardless of partisan bent, 'hard' news is generally sensationalist, dumbed-down, and sterile. The punditry of the talking heads has replaced investigative journalism, allowing the public to derive convenient opinions from their chosen media without the effort of actually forming ones themselves.

!!!? You're kidding, right? The right-wing Christians don't control media. The media emphasizes right-wing Christianity, because that's the side that makes all of Christianity look rigid and stupid. En otras palabras, as they say in my country, the media is casting Christianity in the worst possible light. Most of us Christians are either progressive or more expansive in our views.
Specific content is, indeed, corporate controlled. However, when was the last time you heard a corporation advocate Christian morality? Your argument flat doesn't stand up.

by supporting the political group (Repubs) that uses these same religious groups (Homophobic Anti-Abortion Christian Soldiers) as masses enabling control by loud propensity, then, it's pretty easy to conclude that the majority of American Media in recent years, has been controlled by right-wing Christians. Sinclair, Murdoch, even WSJ? Whomever pays the bills best gets the most coverage and support. Or, maybe, whomever pays the bills is not often exposed as what they REALLY ARE?
This new Entertainment Journalism seemed to start with the Feeding Frenzy at the Clinton impeachment and during the 1st Gulf War, and evolved into a Tool of Control in the hand of those who are most adept: The Right Wing Repubs.

The media is definatley controled by the corperations. Advertising pays the bills and high ratings get the advertising. They will put anything on that will get viewers. They don't care if it's factual or not.

You're trying to dislodge a deeply held myth. Most boomers were born into this so it's ingrained as "truth". No further thought wasted on fact-checking this general assumption. Article after article and study after study shows how our perceptions shape our sense of reality, yet people give standard responses to issues and beliefs without the slightest hesitation or introspection to see if their belief has any basis in truth.
There was a story on here about a year ago that sticks with me: It described a study where the identical news story was presented to two ideologically opposed groups, and both groups said the news story was biased against their group and favored the other! Both groups believed they were being objective.
Without examining ourselves and questioning why we hold our views and beliefs, and testing supposed "truth" we remain trapped into filters of reality we're unaware of. Our objectivity is merely an illusion. There are none so blind...

This has to be the most uninformed idiotic statement I've ever seen. There are a wealth of watchdog sites that painstakingly catalog every incident of liberal bias in the media. It's not even a matter for debate anymore except for those who continue to live in a drug induced cloud. If you think it's the conservative message that doesn't present well, then clearly you've never watched the View (or listened to Air America).

Where were these moderate Christians when Reverend Pat Robertson prayed to Holy God for WWIII on his program in 1980? Why did none of them say it was wrong?
Where were these moderate Christians when Reverend Falwell was demonizing gays and AIDS in the name of Jesus and stigmatized victims so studies and treatments weren't developed in time and it has become a world-wide plague?
Where were the moderate Christians when Jewish shock jock Allen Berg dared to mention the connections between Fundamentalist Christians and White Supremacists and was machine-gunned down in his Denver driveway by swastika wearing neo-Nazis that were hidden from the FBI in a Fundamentalist Christian church that taught "ni*gers are the progeny of the union of Satan and animals?"

They've been there all along, doing their best to reach people. But the media doesn't give them the same forum they give to extremists, and as long as Americans accept that, other voices won't be heard. Right wing extremists have radio sewn up, save for a few stations that carry Air America. The media is owned and manipulated by corporate interests. We used to have laws that said 'news' must show all sides. Those days are gone thanks to deregulation.

With many of the laws newly enacted I would be so bold to say America is owned and manipulated by corporate interests. Truth has become what you want it to be, meaning you can find so called facts to back up whatever your view is. As for Christians against Christians I think you will find one side uses Christianity as a tool for it's agenda while the other is more of a live and let live mind set. It makes sense you would hear from the religious right more as the have to sell their ideas where the other side just wants to live their lives.

Allen Berg is a name I hadn't heard for a long time. For his time (late 1970's as I recall), he was about as over the top as they came. If I recall correctly, he started out as a lawyer in Chicago. When one listened to his call-in program, there was plenty of screaming going on in both directions.

So it's the Christian's fault because they spoke up for moderation, acceptance, inter-faith dialogue, and inter-faith respect but weren't considered "edgy" enough by the conservative controlled media to publish loudly?
Interesting theory. I do agree with you on faith/religion in science classes, though. It has no place there in the realm of public education.

Glad to see Jim Rice organizing a debate for tonight where Democratic Candidates get to explain their faith and how it colors their decision making process.
The Republicans tried to take the Education issue away from Democrats in 2000 with No Child Left Behind. The sad truth is that their No Child Left Behind move was actually aimed at slowly phasing out public education by closing down any under-performing public schools and issuing vouchers for church schools to those left without a local public school.

You forgot about how Rev. Sun Myung Moon of the Moonies started all the rumors about Obama being a Muslim extremist and then tried to lie and claim Hillary Clinton spread those lies.
Look at who owns the media, and you can see the corporate, conservative bias. Look at the stories *not* covered.

Bug, you didn't refute the study, you just attacked the messenger. By your logic it's ok to kill a person for giving bad news, so whistle blowers should be summarily executed.
Anyway, Bug, it never gets boring point out when you're ranting. I suppose it would have been more revealing for you to actually provide statistics to back up your point, but hearing you say, "I've done a lot of thinking" then drop a small percentage of names of people in the media who push a conservative message to try an prove your point. That's not bad for a Netscape freak.

Here's some other links, SAL, that you might like. The liberal bias in media goes back over a hundred years. It is only now (over the last 15 to 20 years) starting to tilt from the far left to the not quite as far left. Bring up Walter Cronkite and just watch how many liberals give you a negative rating. Anyway, don't let the naysayers get to you, it's the reporters who write the news and reporters are decidedly liberal by at least a 4 to 1 count in any poll done on the subject.

Fundamentalism is a specific interpretation of the Bible. It is basically slanted in favor of the power structure in white America. As such, it is favored by the power structure controlled press and also it is very popular among the white suburbans who it is mainly targeted at. By the way, their interpretation is NOT literal. The fundamentalist pick and choose what they like or dislike in the Bible as much as the Catholics or who ever.
To blame the moderate Christians for what this group of Christians does or says is worse than silly. It is like saying that because both a serial killer and you go to the same bank you are a serial killer.
Moderate Christians speak out constantly against fundamentalism. We just don't have a forum to speak since the press ignores us.

Your comment strikes me as very accurate. I have to believe that most American Christians do not succumb to the rancor and divisive spirit presented by those such as the recently deceased Rev Falwell. Real Christians don't feel the need to Kill in an effort to Project Their Love.
I do not feel that this segment you ascribe to has been ignored, it's just that your moderate position is not as "news worthy" as the freakish, therefore, your story does not garner ratings/profits as does the "wild stuff."
I DO feel it's the duty of moderates, as you seem to be, to try to reel-back in- either by example or denouncement- the groups that are giving American Christianity a VERY bad reputation.

Seriously, does it really matter about the media when the bible is more popular than any of that, and the sermon on the mount by Yeshua clearly states his policies, for peace, love and forgiveness? No matter what the fundamentalists do, they have never been able to erase his words, what he stood for and what he did and the legacy he left us with (together with Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene), will always far outstrip whatever the media does. What more could the moderates or liberals ever need or want? Did the people you are complaining about write "A Course in Miracles" or "The Essene Gospels of Peace"; do they ever repeat or study these? There is no doubt that the Elohim has already left us with everything we need to accomplish peace and love in the world. We need never feel jealous of "the media" or left the short straw. After reading the two page article, I conclude it's a tie. How I wish the news media was like this article. It presented both side's views in a fair and equal way and left the conclusion up to the reader to decide. This is the way real news should be given.

The RIGHT wing controls the media? Is this the same media that rooted for Al Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004? Or perhaps it's the right wing media that NEVER reports success in Iraq. Would it be the same media, maybe, that glorifies leftist policies like socialized medicine? I'm wondering what media you're talking about? If you look at the list of "conservative" broadcasters that someone posted earlier, how many of them are on ABC, NBC, and CBS? You have to look at cable TV or talk radio to find those guys. Even at that, they are doing quite well.
Folks, no one forces you to listen to Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck (or Quinn and Rose, XM channel 165). These guys do well because FREE people WANT to listen to them. It's called a free market. Trust me, if people actually wanted to hear what Katie Couric had to say, CBS Evening News wouldn't be in the tank right now.

You are either a Christian or you're not a Christian. Christian mean "Christ-like". Before they were called Christians at Antioch in the Book of Acts, they were called "people of the Way". The way was a direct reference to Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
The media, the religious leaders and any others who use terms to confuse people, had better give serious consideration to what they are doing. There will be a judgment day!
