I think the thing may be a set up. The video cam just happens to be on at the right time and place huh?
I do have to say that I love the father in the video. Talk about keeping a low profile. lol

Completely staged. Just look at how its obviously the 'Dad' who turns on the camera and walks across the scene. It does bring up a valid point. There is often a 'questioning' stage allowed in all religions but when you do go against the perceived thought, whatever religion you follow your mother will always react like that.

He's only an atheist? Not a drug addict, a convicted felon, a rapist, a murderer? Now those are things to get upset about with your child!
Talking about hard to watch...look for the video surveillence tape showing a 91-year old man being beaten repeatedly in the face by a car jacker. And....there were people one car's distance away in the parking lot who did nothing! Shame!

Agreed. I cringed when she stood up because I was expecting her to clobber the poor kid.

The good news: Somebody recognized the insanity and videotaped this; perhaps there's at least one healthy-minded person in the mix.

This is what happens when people procreate and raise children as if they were meant to be trained seals to be molded in their own image as opposed to individual, independent-minded people with their own hopes, dreams, and beliefs.

It isn't always 'black and white' when decided what you would call brainwashing and what the parent might see as being a role model.
I'm sure if/when you have children, you will do what you believe to be in their best interest for their sake.
This isn't the clearest model of that, but MOST parents try to be an example for their children, not turn them into Nazi children.

Unfortunately. Religion is Brainwashing. Why then is the congregation called sheep? Religion is not a good role model. Obviously this women is no role model anyway. with the language she was using. This is typical of religious people though. They act contrary to their beliefs because they have their ticket punched to heaven.

We agree. My main point is that I think many people have children for the wrong reasons. Unless their motivation for having children is to clone themselves, it seems to me that reasonably self-actualized people would conceive a child with the knowledge and understanding that children are going to make choices in life which they feel are right for *them* and that the parent won't always agree with those choices.

That's right, Michael.
It's not ok!
What do you think will happen to US economy on Christmas if everyone became an atheist? It would probably go in recession. Did you think about that, Michael?
I guess you didn't. All you did was weaken the country. That's all you did. You put American economy in danger.

I thought it was interesting that she pulled the "you're not geting anything for Christmas" card with the kid, and he didn't care. With that gesture, she overplayed her hand, and the kid won.
Isn't that the way modern religion goes? Believe and you get presents?
As far as mom is concerned, membership has it's privileges.

Give me a break... explain to me how that works with the millions upon millions of parents who buy their kids presents for christmas and have no religious affiliation?
Quit spreading your hatemongering with your generalizations. Just as many "athiests" and people of other religions take part in Christmas as Christians do (which by the way is -not- a Christian holiday...)

Why was she yelling at him? WWJD? Jesus would not yell at that child. Jesus loves all the lttle children. All the children of the world. That Mom needs Jesus.

I have to say that I am not actually surprised by her behavior. Most "christians" feel morally superior and will stop at nothing to force others to join their practice. I am a little shocked that she was treating a teenager like a 7 year old. How out of touch is that family? Bribing him with the threat of withholding christmas gifts was sheer genius-worked like a charm didn't it? The eunich sitting on the barstool next to that kid should have bought a new pair and stood up to the witch. I don't think I could sit in silence while someone treated my child in that manner.

Yeah, I also wondered about the older male at the table. Was he the father, older brother or the mother's boyfreind? Seems he didn't feel as fervent as the shrew about God or he was p*ssy whipped and knew to keep his mouth shut. I feel sorry for the kid with such a domineering and twisted mother.

You are generalizing unless you have some data to support your claim that "Most "christians" feel morally superior...".

I agree.
I think you're confusing the idea of being 'morally superior' and being 'morally justified'.
I would say more Christians feel firmly that they know how to live out the best life possible and would wish nothing more than for people to enjoy a good life free of fear, doubt, pain, etc. At least that's how we do it at our church.
The ideals of Christianity by your example is like having the cure for cancer and refusing to share it. A Christian isn't "better" than other people and they aren't free from the turmoil of life.
If you can get past your God-hating and 'fantasy story' attitude... if nothing else, think of religion as a doctrine of laws and standards to ensure you live the best life you can.
I don't see how anyone can refute that without admitting they want struggle and more problems in their lives.

Wow! I thought religious people weren't suppose to swear. She's pretty handy with the "F" word. What a hypocrite! Also, who's the Pillsbury Doughboy in the video? Obviously believing in God isn't doing him any good. Hey, buddy didn't God tell you to lay off the Ho-Ho's?

Sure the mother acted like a psycho and the father just sat there, but who knows what led up to the scene??? Who knows if the kid had just told them his girlfriend was pregnant or he was fired or something? The mother starts screaming Oh my god and then he starts in with the I don't believe in god stuff.
The kid might just be a jerk trying to get her going?????
