Where is Bill O'Reilly and FoxNews? Why aren't they throwing Jesus under the bus to save the Easter Bunny like they are trying to save Christmas! Why Bill and Foxnews put T-shirts, mugs, ties, stickers, all cheaply made in China proudly displaying Merry Christmas as logos all for the low low price of $19.95 plus shipping and handling on their website to SAVE CHRISTMAS. Forget Jesus, what's important is keeping the Easter Bunny alive!

We dwell in a generation of utter cowards.
To forget HISTORY and our roots of Law and Culture within Britain, Canada as well as the United States shows a mental disorder.

Hadn't you noticed? Our history and the roots of our law and culture grow from a vary diverse and distinct variety of soils. But one very fertile ground for that growth was the wall of separation of church and state whereby the wasps could not lord it over all subsequent immigrants.
I am glad to see an educational institution recognizing that it can not lend the prestige, facilities, or anything to promoting or celebrating any limited religious tradition. If Christians want to celebrate an Easter Bunny (although I can not find it in the Bible, the bunny as a symbol of fertility being worshipped by many religions other than Christians) they should give it up as having nothing to do with Easter.
The Christian adoption of that symbol was just an attempt to useurp and shanghi other's religious celebrations. But Christians had been trying to do that since very early, even taking the idea of resurrection from the Egyptians.

If the educational institution feels it can not legitimately recognize a "christian tradition" then it should not do so, at all.
Trying to change a "tradition" is not the purpose of the educational system, and it should be an affront to everyone that the educational system is attempting to do so. This is akin to rewriting history.
If it is not legal to honor it, then simply ignore it! Don't use political correctness as an excuse to change traditions.

As a non-christian I could "almost" handle them calling it the "spring bunny". Peter cottontail is annother character altogether. I don't want anyone messing with my favorite holiday. I guess that I am too late. Over two thousand years ago it was the celibration of the Norse goddess Ester, then Jesus died and was resurected for his people. Thats cool. This upstart god that is taking over the holiday really chaps me. Who is this almighty Dollar? why are we praising him on this day along with many of the other holidays.
When I was a child we didn't get Easter presents. We got an egg hunt. I was happy with that. I didn't know the story about Jesus or about Ester either. It was a family holiday about togetherness, and I loved it.

PC correctness has gone to far. How does a bunny represent Christianity??? This is a joke!!! Can't wait to see whats next, perhaps we should ban the 4th of July so we don't offend the illegal immigrants...

Peter Rabbit and the Easter Bunny are 2 different stories- a principle aught to know this.
the easter bunny is a co-opted pagan symbol from norse spring/ fertility rights (although it was far less personified) in order to aid in the adoption of that culture into christianity. which makes this kind of funny to me.
Political Correctness is progressive philosophy without the benefit of thinking. someone needs to put a stop to it.

Im not that religious, but i repect whatever traditions people have such as celebrateing Easter. If folks cant handle it maybe they should just leave the country. Even if Easter is geared toward little kids finding Easter eggs and candy is fine for me.. Let them have fun.. To you Liberals trying to destroy our heritage and way of life in the U.S, SCREW YOU....

Given that the rabbit in celebration of the spring equinox has NOTHING to do with christian tradition and is in fact an icon of fertility and sexual enthusiasm, "Peter" rabbit would be the bon mot.

I think Peter rabbit was explained on Southpark episode last week! ;-)
I remember nice Easter parties at school (public school) room mothers would come in, bring all kinds of goodies, you'd have fun coloring bunnies, chicks, flowers etc...great!!!! if your family was religious, you go to church and celebrate Easter the way you want, and what it means to your family. Same thing with Christmas!
Really do the Christians want to have 2 different celebrations for Christmas and Easter? Many traditions were taken by Christians to make it easy for others to adapt to their own(Christians) agenda.

This "political correctness" is becomming ridiculous.
I'm raised Catholic, went 2 Catholic shools, but became atheist.
However, we live (US and most of Europe) in a society, with a mostly greek/judea/Chirstian background, culture and filosophie.
This culture, traditions have grown for centuries.
The Eastern Rabit (and indeed even Xmas) comes form a mixture of pagan European traditions and Christian traditions.
They are part of OUR (western) culture, traditions,... Being a Christian or atheist doesn't change that. As an atheist I do enjoy the Eastern Rabit AND Christmas (even if I might give another significance to it)
In some European airports they even went so far as not putting a Xmas tree nor XCrib anymore, in "respect" for other beleives.
If I go to an Oriental country, I don't ask, nor expect them to take away their cultural and religious symbols. And I will try to adapt to their traditions when needed.
This "pol. corctn" madness has to stop

Funny how they've gotta rename the Easter Bunny to include everyone, 'cuz Easter aint even a Christian holiday. It was a Pagan celebration that the Christains later borrowed.
http://www.albatrus.org/english/festivals/easte...
The whole idea of chasing Easter eggs doesn't have anything to do with Christianity, either. It's some fertility rite that the European ancestors performed in the days when pagan religions were the dominant forms of worship on that continent.
Christianity later replaced these nature-based, female oriented, polytheistic religions. But whether he's called the Easter Bunny or Peter Rabbit, the roots of Easter can be traced to the Pagans, not the Christians.

As I understand it, both the egg and the Bunny that brings them are old pagan fertility sysmbols that the Christian community sort of adopted. Other than one having part of its moniker as Easter, there is little Christian about them.
It's interesting to see the politically correct types as well as those who froth at them lock horns (no satanic implications intended) on this.
All this having been said, sometimes traditions are nice and basically harmless. It seems like this school went out of its way to bug people ; and it certainly succeeded. One would think they had better things to do.

Children can no longer speak of any Christian tradition in schools.
However it is fine to learn about Kwanza???
I love Christmas and completly understand the meaning as do my pre-teen daughters.
I loved drawing names and getting a gift for a classmate when I was little.
I always hoped that whoever picked me got me a Lifesaver Story Book!!!
P.C. is shortchanging our children.
It's fone to teach about non-traditional famalies but how dare we speak of anything that might have a religious ring to it.
IT'S SICK!!!!!
Let the kids name the bunny anything they want!
We have a pet named OREO! OH NO I should have asked permission from Nabisco!!!

Why do some of you idiots always resort to Muslim or black bashing when some idiot in politics puts forth a ridiculous proposal? The "bunny" part of Easter is no more Christian than is Elmer Fudd. If you want to do something positive, go to church and celebrate what Easter is really about: the sacrificing of Christ for the world. I belong to a church that holds about five hundred people; last Sunday there were thirty people at 10:30 Mass.

The "Easter Bunny" has no religious significance to Christians. It is a seemingly harmless amusement which has been appended to the very real religious holiday of Easter--a celebration of the resurrection of Christ.
I do not think that the "Easter Bunny" is worth fighting for, but I am concerned about the motives of those who would ban it. Is this simply another way to aggravate Christians, to marginalize them and their traditions, by attacking their children? If this is so, then the attckerrs should be roundly condemned. They have demonstrated their own shallow ommitment to mutual respect, tolerance, and good will toward those who think differently from themselves.

Seradene:
this country was not founded by christians, the majority of signators on the declaration and constitution were diests. These are people who believe in a creator, but subscribe to no particular organized religion.
Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, Monroe, etc.
Washington was a christian anda few others, but the founders as a group were not christians.
none the less, outlawing the easter bunny is stupid.

The joke is on the educators who think
they are doing away with a sacred Christian
symbol. It really makes them look like the
fools that they are. They can take their
PC attitudes and stick em where the sun
don't shine.(Which should be easy, considering
where their heads are)

I find it interesting that all the comments are on the renaming of the "Easter Bunny" and none refer to the "150 year old tradition" of an Easter Bunny asthe RI Govenor claims.... The Easter Bunny is not 150 years or more old as far as "his" current usage. The "Easter Bunny" as we now him is more about the same age as Rudolph (a marketing ply for Macy's Department Store I think) and the commercialization of a "Christian" holiday. The only remotly religious signifigance is to many of the pagan religions, most of them of European origin.

c90jim thinks that
calling a rabbit, "Peter Cottontail," "recognizes" a Christian tradition? Seems to me it is an attempt to not do so and to give any church that tries to use the public schools a lesson in being careful what they wish for!
c90jim claims that "Trying to change a "tradition" is not the purpose of the educational system,..."
Education should bring all traditions into question. Substituting Peter Cottontail for what the church people (who tried to use the school to their own non-educational purposes) call an "Easter Bunny" certainly brings that tradition into question. It gives no answers. The school is not teaching anyone what to think about the "Easter Bunny."
So, it should not be an affront to anyone that the educational system is not attempting to do" any such thing.
