Wearing a pirate outfit because of his religion! Next we will have people comming naked because they are nudists. School is a place for educating not flaunting your beliefs. Particularly if they interfere with the other students ability to learn and concentrate.

While I think the students actions are quite hilarious, you are absolutely right.

"Wearing a pirate outfit because of his religion!"

Take a look at those clowns over in the Vatican. Grown men, grey hair, walking around in those childish outfits.

And with all due respect, how about the Knights of Columbus? Have you ever seen them garbed up?

AAAAaarrrrr, good place to see ya, blackbeard!

okay, now you guys are crossing spectrums, education and religion. The Govt gets to set the education and how its done. Religion doesnt and shouldnt be a part of it. Am I correct, at least in public schools. If religion cant be a part of it in the "seperation of church and state" bs that often discussed, then religion can be shown here..as this supports all religions equally, by banning all of it!

Honestly? Me thinks we are just making fun of it all.....

First of all let me say that I am religious. With that said, if prayer is not allowed in school how can a person wearing something promoting their religion be allowed? I think kids should be made to wear uniforms, that would stop all of this kind of stuff and would equal out the school.

avatar

You are right on target! How can we let this religious crap under the guise of "intelligent design" in our schools, which gives this student to flaunt his equally ridiculous beliefs.

Kids should be made to wear uniforms. Uniforms purchased by the schools and local government.

And the uniforms should only come in certain sizes, so that overweight kids will have to lose weight, or be kicked out until they're healthy, and the same that students who are too thin will be forced to attain a healthy weight.

Students could also be identified by a number, such that teachers will not be able to discriminate or reward based on gender or race.

Mine wears a uniform. But.... she is still a pirate, or at least thinks she is.....she really is the coolest kid ever.

I am a very protective mom, by the way.....

Peace out.

uh the same reason muslims wear turbins.

are you serious?

maybe because a freakin costume doesnt explain in words, like a prayer would, the persons religion. if you dont like the costume, dont look. but if you dont like the prayer, dont listen?

avatar

Turbans are one of the 5 K's of Sikhism - ergo, if you see someone with a turban, you can be absolutely certain that they are not,in fact, a Muslim, but a Sikh.

Muslims are merely required to dress modestly.

What do they put in you guys' water?

"...how can a person wearing something promoting their religion be allowed?"

Like crosses & crucifix's? Those are a couple of religious idols that are worn everyday to public schools and they are allowed, regardless how grossly offensive they are.

(grossly offensive? yes! such was a means of torture and death and I for one have never understood why some people praise and worship what is basically a torture/murder instrument - the cross...I mean, had Jesus been hung, would people be wearing nooses around their necks? Gallows with human fruit hanging from steeples all across America? Or how about had he been impaled a la Prince Vlad's favorite game? Imagine all the little images of Jesus we'd see hanging around peoples necks from little gold chains...twisted in agony with a greased pole working it's way through the rectum...

Yes, celebrating grotesque murder and turning it into a false idol is disgusting, sick and really warped)

People are not celebrating a grotesque murder, or the torture/murder instrument (the cross). We are celebrating what HE overcame to rise again.

Did you know that some of the jews are/were proud of the tatoos they received in the camps, because it showed the horrors that they had to overcome.

I would agree, but only when they ban Jews from wearing yarmulkes and muslims from wearing head scarves. If the schools want to bow down to one relegion then they should have to bow down to all of them no matter how insane.

There are several religions that I can think of that require special dress codes no matter where they are. Would you not allow them to go to school because of that??? If you would want to be fair then all schools should have a uniform of some sort and that being the standard dress code for all students no matter what religion they belong to. Otherwise, no school for them. Then these kids will have to form their own school so that they can dress the way their religion dictates. My, that would mean a lot of new schools and the state school budget would sky rocket. I can just see it.

Religious schools can't be funded the same as public schools.

i've never seen this in the states (as i'm a canadian ex-pat) but i know in canada male muslims (i believe) are allowed to bring their ceremonial knives (forget the name of them) to school. want ridiculous? that's ridiculous.

this kid rocks though. actually, i think dressing like pirates should be mandatory for all school children.. yarrrrrrr

avatar
Reply

I believe those ceremonial knives are Sikh, not Muslim.

avatar

my bad. either way, it's over-accomodation.

I love this story, the Flying Spaghetti Monster may not be as common of a religion but if someone wants to believe in it then by all means.

Did anyone notice the caption under the Johnny Depp photo from Pirates? "A man in full pirate regalia"

The next time that I am putting an evergreen tree in my living room (Christmas) and then into water and wiring it with electricty (lights) I shall recall the Pastafarian religion! :-)

The guys who wear those large pointy hats (Rome) don't like turf invasions!

That kid will be a good lawyer!
