Spadecaller, I usually do not agree with your stories or point of view but very nice!

I thought it was beautiful. Right till the last panel, I thought it was a loving parent talking to a sometimes rebellious child now grown up. Guess I was right.

First of all, if our sun pulsed like that I doubt we'd even be here to make up a God.
And if God had been there ever single time, why have I not found one bit of evidence to support this hypothesis? Everything good that has happened in my life has a less complicated explanation than a supernatural intelligence.
And to say every bad thing in my life is simply a "test" or "a way to grow" shows that God is not omniscient. An omniscient God would know a way to teach me those lessons without pain.
If God really, truly wanted me to believe, which is what all theists claim, my brother-in-law would recover from his painful, congenital disease overnight with no explanation. And for a supposedly omnipotent being, this should trivial. If he vindictively demands a sacrifice, he can take me.
But it hasn't happened yet, and I'm not holding my breath.
This is a bunch of saccharine claptrap that people tell themselves so they're not afraid of reality that I don't need.

Sounds you expect God to be your servant boy and do what you want, like instantly heal your brother-in-law. Since He obviously isn't, you refuse to believe in Him. Well, fine. Suit yourself.
Like Spadecaller says below, "Too bad you can't allow others to appreciate something without putting them down for it. What an angry and bitter display you have made with your remarks."

icelander,
So sorry to hear of your brother in law. Sometimes we do not understand the ways of the world or God's intentions. God will never intervene unless he is invited to do so.

It helps people to think they're loved and cared for. That's a good thing. And if you can't find the faith to think it comes from a higher power, then apply it to the love of a mother or father. It's not important where we find our value, what's important is that we know we have it.

icelander, I am sorry about your brother-in-law but it is not a test, it may in the end strengthen your faith but his disease is caused by the sin in the world. Before Adam and Eve sinned the world was perfect but now that there is sin in the world there is also pain, sickness, and disease. Also if you do not believe in God or doubt him, why would you expect him to answer your prayers?
Reply-

icelander1 year, 6 months ago
I don't expect him to answer my prayers because he does not exist. What I have issue with is people who claim God is "always there" when there is no evidence in support of and so much evidence supporting my assertion that God is imaginary.
And I'm angry about it because I am surrounded by people who think that a loving, nurturing, all-powerful God exists, and for some reason is letting their a great kid waste away.
Religion is dangerous, and faith is not a virtue. It's a weakness.

Mythology! That and a misunderstanding of 'sin'.
I'm sorry, but that is absurd. Don't forget the generations upon generations of verbal storytelling, alterations in language, the multiple translations...all from barbaric desert nomads following a diverse pantheon (not monotheistic) of dieties. And that's the story your putting out?

God does not exist to please us. We were created to please Him.
How did you learn not to touch fire? You tried it and it caused pain. Most of life's lessons are learned that way. What if you were to tell a child many times that fire would cause pain? The child would know what you said, but would never really know the pain caused by fire. God tells us what to do, how to behave, but we don't really know until we experience it, sometimes painfully, that He is right.
God's plan is not ours. We can ask, must must accept that we may not get what we ask for. Miracle healings do occur. God is not vindictive and the sacrifice has already been made. The thing is, are you ready to give yourself to God?
As long as you doubt and mock God, healing cannot happen within you. "Everything is possible for them that believe""all things are possible with God"

I was not a "church person" growing up but I had an experience that convinced me.
My father-in-law died and in life he was lame in one leg, unable to jump and dance. At his funeral I saw him smiling and waving to everyone and jumping and dancing. In his spirit he was healed. Then again at the cemetery I saw him come around and say goodbye to his family and he was happy.
That day I began to really believe in God and not just as a philosopical position, carefully thought out. So, icelander, even as you say we cannot prove the existence of God, neither can you prove the opposite. I have had too many prayers answered to doubt God.
I pray that your brother-in-law will improve and that God will help him and help the doctors to heal him. I pray that your heart will be softened and the bitterness taken away. There is no place where God is not, in heaven, in hell, in your heart, in your brother-in-law, you need only to accept Him.

That is so very perverse. Why is this belief out there? That image conjures up a small-minded, petty child. It is hateful at best.
Having always been a Heretic (one who chooses), I have failed to see why those who use their faith as a religion, an enslaving chain, would choose to give belief in a beast that is jealous, vengeful and demands idolization and the supplications of slaves bearing gifts of gold. And this is their GOD!

There's no reason to give him so many negative ratings on his comment people. He's athiest; no need to criticize him on his beliefs.

Hey Icelander, I'm really sorry about your brother-in-law. Watching a loved one suffer hurts a thousand times more than loosing someone - it makes you feel so powerless. But even if we were to take God out of the equation I would still have to say that man kind only grows because of pain. Its unfair and it sucks but I think its a natural process to all things in this world. Though it is incredibly unfortunate and a price I would never want to pay, trials like the one you're experiencing persuade and force you and others to react. It is because of the people who suffer and care about the ones who have suffered that inspire others to take action, to do research against these diseases, to donate to finding cures for these diseases, and to fight these diseases. So even though you may not believe in God as I do, I'll still pray to God to give you and your brother-in-law and his family strength just in case he really does exist. Dig deep and hang in there, you're stronger than you think.

Here is how God works according to the followers. If a child (due to negligent parents) falls through the ice and is saved, the parents tell the local news "GOD was watching over him". Another child drowns, this than would indicate that God didn't care about that kid.

No offense intended to yours or anyone else's convictions. I believe it's best to "live and let live" and I did not post this for any other purpose other than for those who might enjoy the message.
Icelander, I don't see anyone insulting your views, which can be done with just as much ease... Too bad you can't allow others to appreciate something without putting them down for it. What an angry and bitter display you have made with your remarks. That's sad.

I gave up praying years ago. I prayed so hard one day for my wife who had left me to call. The phone rang & I said, "Hello Denise"... she was stunned, and asked me how did I know it was her. I said I had prayed really hard for her to call. She says, "whatever, I called to tell you I'm filing for divorce". The last time I prayed for my dog, my best friend, who was dying of cancer. I prayed, nothing changed, he was dying of cancer and he did.

Believing in nothing. You mean nihilism?
From all atheists and agnostics I know, I still haven't encountered a nihilist.
Locky12, how come you think the choice is between Christianity, extremist Islam and nihilism? There are plenty of other religions.
By the way, from what I've read the hijackers did it, because they were convinced that it was Allah's will, where did you get that they wanted to do it?

LOL! Funny how we can be on the opposite ends of the political spectrum and yet be brothers and sisters spiritually.
I don't apologize for my beliefs to any one; they were not easily discovered (in my case). For many years of my life I was an agnostic before finding a fox hole, a prayer, and some miracles.
Beyond the best medical physician's prognostications, I should have been dead many times over. I was too arrogant in my youth to ever believe that there could be anything greater than myself. An open mind is hard to come by. Some of us need a 2X4 across the side of the head to get our attention first. LOL

Wow! What a wonderful and very inspiring article this is! Yes! I remember today that God is there, giving me
His love and care.
He's lending me His strength, sending many blessings
my way, and giving me the gift of a bright new day.
I hope people realize the significance and importance of God in our daily lives. Let's pray that He may always guide and protect us in everything we do.
God bless us all!

Locky12, finally something we agree on.
If the NON believers would simply think about this, Your mother didn't give you everything you asked for, does that mean she never existed? Same fundamentals apply here, God knows what's best for us, and sometimes the answer to a prayer is NO. So simple!

I sunk it because it was just flat out smaltzy to the point of wanting to make me hurl. That and the only 'religion' which uses both that language and that delivery style, that subtle salesmanship, are the current (quite current!) crop of consumer concious Christian congregations. It is, to a significant degree, both the marketing of God (and thus service to another god, Mammon) and the idolization of God. Case in point, everyone on here saying such absolute rot as "message from my Dad". Thus the usage of this 'message' as a 'fetish' to pray on in representation of God. Idolotry.
Thank you and I hope you guys give me dozens of 'Bad' marks for this. But it is honest.

"God love ya neuroticus, the rest of us are trying to love ya"
LOL, I really do not care if you "love" me. I am an atheist, and a humanist, and a democrat. I dislike religion, and want to push it to the edge of my society. If that bothers you, then that is more your problem than mine. I usually block the religious people on these type of websites :-)

Typical of an aetheist, humanist and DEMOCRAT, demand the freedom to practice your own "There-is-no-God" religion and deny others the right to practice their beliefs. Push them out of society. Then block them out, because you cannot stand to have anyone disagree with you. Your ideal government is tyranny, dictatorship and forcing everyone into your mold.

icelander I agree with everyone else on your comments.I have seen many of your comments in the past. God is not here to justify himself to icelander. He is the Creator! He is self eficient without any of us. How in your disbelief can you expect him to come running to the rescue when you want him after all you have written against him. I would recomend to you that you go to a place alone, get on your knees repent and ask for his mercy on you before you expect anything. He is a loving God. He is a forgiving God. But he is not a God to be tempted.

Well said Albmore!
Icelander is a sad human being, expecting to be shown and have it proven to him on a daily, incident for incident basis of the actual existance of God, just as though the rest of us haven't suffered losses, sickness, hard times and trials in our lives.
