It spite of Christian right attempts to rewrite history to make Jefferson into a Christian, little about his philosophy resembles that of Christianity. Although Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence wrote of the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God, there exists nothing in the Declaration about Christianity.

Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.

-Thomas Jefferson, Autobiography, in reference to the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom

END OF ARGUMENT....we are not a Christian nation...thank GOD!!!

You believe what you want to believe.

Answer this for me professor. If Thomas Jefferson did not believe in Christ's divinity how on earth can you describe him as a Christian? Read Jefferson's Bible you will find it quite interesting. I can assure you that in the Bible Belt his beliefs would be considered quite unacceptable. This is easily resolved by turning a blind eye to knowledge as you have done. Jefferson saw great worth in what is described as Jesus's word and morality. That does not make him a Christian. This is clear. As it would be unimaginable to hear him express..."I believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost"....

You assuredness of the correctness of your argument pleases no one but yourself. Your beliefs have no influence on mine as they are derived from faith and my arguments will always be based on logic. Therefore you will assuredly find it rare that we agree on anything. I hold the facts, you hold the myth.

" I have recently been examining all known superstitions of the world.I find in our particular superstition,Christianity, not one redeeming feature, they are all alike founded on fable and mythology"

in the context of what God means in the article...why would people want "Under God" out of our Pledge of Allegiance and "In God We Trust" off our currency? Why do people want all references to God out of the public square?

This article is a red-herring. This country is for everybody of every faith or no faith at all...but the strong Judeo-Christian traditions of our founding fathers and beyond cannot be denied!

As one who is chiming in to label others as wrong, that task falls to you. And I would be astounded if books written 200 years ago are "the same" as those today. But the handwritten correspondence of Jefferson speaks eloquently enough for itself.

Yesterday, I was searching for a video link to Monty Python's Holy Grail and the scene with the fight between the Black Knight and King Arthur. Ran across this link. It speaks volumes on why it is utterly pointless to cite facts to someone like GodsServant.

Again, God's Servant, your entire argument is based on faith, not reason. And of course because of your faith you reject every argument based on logic. I cannot imagine living such a life. There is almost surely a God (some omnipotent force opererating in this universe) but you can spend all day reading the Bible and you aren't getting one iota closer to understanding such an entity.

I've observed two groups of people who profess atheism. Those who truly believe there is no deity above humanity. And those who profess a disbelief, but actually harbor a hatred for argument of the existance of a deity. The former are recognized by there impervious regard to those who profess belief in such. And the latter are easly recoginized by there incessant vitriol toward those same believers. It becomes blantly obvious through there viteral, they actually believe in a deith, they just don't like him.
